Why stories and art?
We’re living in a time of deep loneliness and disconnection. Every year, around 700,000 people die by suicide. Over a lifetime, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health condition, yet two-thirds won’t receive any support or care.
So why don’t we talk about it more? Stigma, taboo, shame... These keep us silent, and silence breeds more loneliness, disconnection, and despair. That’s where stories and art come in. When we openly share the chaotic, complicated, and confusing things about being human, particularly those often left unsaid, something shifts.
At Be Beyond Borders, we’ve seen how storytelling and meaningful conversations can change, and even save, lives. Our stories aim to remind us that we’re not alone, to bring people together, and to celebrate both the similarities that make us human and the differences that make us unique.

Performing
“Still Here?” - Solène's first and now award-winning short film in partnership with cinematographer Robert Stanley Crampton and producer Isaac Harvey, is an invitation to remind ourselves and each other, what makes life worth living.
She also acted in Almost Maine at The Courtyard Playhouse, in The Craft at The Junction as part of the Short & Sweet theatre festival in Dubai in 2025. She wrote and performed spoken word poetry 'Why me?' at Disability Expo 2023, at the Excel in London and spoke at TEDx Melbourne about 'The Great Unknown'. You’ll find her to be a regular improviser and spoken word performer too.
As you’ll notice in her showreel, Solène's acting and presenting career is very versatile. In 2022 and 2023, she even created and hosted her own talkshow: The Inclusion Conversation.
Writing
Solène is the author of five books: Where to Next? a travel memoir, Where Are You From? a children’s story, Pensées d’Ailleurs and Where? poetry books, and Mindful Emotions, a colouring book.
You can also find examples of her work in the Melbourne Writers Social Group Anthology, in Reciprocity – A Celebration of the Life of Jean-Paul Delamotte, and in the monthly newsletter she writes for Othentik. She’s covered topics, such as Celebrating Neurodiversity and Unlocking Innovation and Would you trust new technology with your health?
Solène’s writing extends to other related art forms too, music in particular, and she writes lyrics and performs spoken word poetry for XSIV alongside singer and songwriter Xannie Stavert.
Painting
Painting and creative works allow us to explore emotions, identity, and change differently and meaningfully.
Solène’s art work was first exhibited as part of her exhibition: “We Belong Everywhere” in 2020, in Melbourne, Australia.
One of her paintings, ‘Keep Swimming’ was then featured at the Emotions Matter: Riding the Waves exhibition in 2024, in New York, USA.
Another piece, ‘The Colours of the False-Self’ became part of a collaborative study led by Fiona Jestin, Founder of BorderAttitude, in partnership with Paris-Nanterre University, Paris-Créteil University, and Ascencia Business School, around the theme of masking in the workplace, in 2024, in France.
